If there’s one thing that brings on the wanderlust, it’s being in lockdown – so we’re sharing our latest dream getaway discovery – Heartwood Cabin!
Nestled in Burringbar (an inland town 38 kilometres north of Byron), Heartwood is an entirely off-the-grid eco cabin sitting on 100 acres of hinterland. Art is a language, and each artist creates their own dialect. Through brushstrokes and colours, shape and line, a painter communicates visually what it is sometimes to difficult to pin down in words. Something close to a feeling.
In a quiet pocket of inland Queensland, Amalia Keefer has harnessed this unique expressive power in her painting practice. Her bright, kaleidoscopic compositions are abstract renderings of a stray moment in her day: her cat stretching out on the bed, or a screenshot of a stranger’s apartment. She takes these everyday frames and builds on them with layers and layers of colour, based on her mood and intuition. The resulting works are distinct and inviting, like hearing a word in a foreign tongue that still sounds familiar.

Before she was a florist, a 16-year-old Shahn Stewart thought her destiny was to be a librarian. One work experience rejection letter later, and she turned to floristry to mix up her professional options. It was love at first sight.
That stroke of fortune was eleven years ago, and with more than a decade’s floristry experience now under her belt, the Yorta Yorta woman achieved a huge career milestone mid-way through last year: opening her own store!
Alchemy Orange is Shahn’s new floral studio located in East Brunswick, Melbourne, where she constructs bold, exciting arrangements and installations from raw, natural and foraged materials.

The efforts of a landscape designer are usually concentrated towards the rear of the property, where a private sanctuary can be nurtured in relative privacy, hidden from the street. Not here!
This Camberwell project by Bethany Williamson Landscape Architecture is a celebration of the front garden. Subbing out the traditional lawn for a space layered with different heights, explosive colours and varied textures, this often overlooked domain is given all the attention it deserves!

Polperro Winery is a small vintner in Red Hill an hour’s drive from Melbourne, on the Mornington Peninsula. Owners Sam Coverdale and Emma Phillips have spent the best part of a decade contributing different amenities to the area, including a bistro and clothing boutique in Red Hill village, and a biodynamic farm and yoga studio – all while running their two successful wine labels! The latest addition is the Polperro Farmhouse: a Hecker Guthrie-designed accommodation lodge, designed for the ultimate weekend escape.
Very few private holiday rentals like this come with their own activity precinct nearby (unless you’re staying at a resort). But this is not your average BnB.

The Heartbreakingly Beautiful Flowers Of Soho Rose Farm – The Design Files | Australia's most popular design blog.
by adminby adminRoses hold a sort of miraculous quality. There is perhaps no flower more imbued with the symbolism of love, beauty and devotion.
Soho Rose Farm in Victoria has a bit of a love story of its own. When more than 8000 rose bushes were set to be destroyed on a retired flower farm in Drysdale, florist Kristy Tippett and her husband Brock stepped in to save them. The couple corralled a team of people, who worked tirelessly to uproot and relocate each individual rose bush, to be replanted on Kristy and Brock’s own farm, 2.5 hours away. Despite no experience with commercial growing, Kristy has spent the last three years tending to the roses, and cultivating the most glorious flower farm.
We talked to Kristy to find out a little more about the journey of Soho Rose Farm, and the magic of the humble garden rose.
